Who We Are (Last updated
2/10)
Who
are we?
Neverfail Community Church (started in 1999) , is a very small
group
(currently about 15) of Christian believers committed to being ambassadors of the
Kingdom of God to our extended community by our words and actions. Since
nearly its beginning, NCC has been pleased to be affiliated with Tennessee
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and
is a Tennessee non-profit corporation. IRS
501(c)(3) Recognition of Exemption has been approved. We are honored to be about the mission of being
Christ’s heart, feet and hands to our neighbors. Our prayers are that He
will use us in partnership with others to bring not just help, but life
giving transformation to our community.
What
is our vision?
Luke 4:14-21 (KJV)
14 And Jesus returned in the
power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him
through all the region round about. 15
And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he
had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue
on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him
the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he
found the place where it was written,
18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to
preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of
sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year
of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and
he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of
all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them,
This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that
I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;
because I go unto my Father.
We
believe that the first scripture quoted above reveals to us Jesus'
mission statement. The second scripture quoted directs that Jesus'
mission statement must be our mission statement. Neverfail Community
Church seeks to bring honor to our God, who is the creator and sustainer
of all things, through learning and practicing Godly love, mercy, grace
and accountability towards one another, towards
others in congregations nearby, and towards our neighbors whoever
they may be. We seek to offer both a gracious welcome into the
Kingdom of God AND a demanding and exciting discipleship as we follow in
Christ's steps.
How did we get here?
Neverfail Community Church is right in the middle of the community where
founding pastors Emily and Eliot Roberts have lived and worked for more
than two decades. The work was conceived and birthed by concern
and compassion for their neighbors. God brought together a small group
of similarly motivated people from the community for weekly prayer
throughout 1999. Vision and direction for the new church congregation
was discerned through that year of prayer and study. The first public
worship service was an Easter sunrise service and breakfast in 2000. The
church quickly partnered with TCBF and CBF and were blessed with two
years of small grants from TCBF which assisted in supporting Emily
Roberts as the first “Community Missionary.”
